Lizzo Reveals: I Vowed to Stay a Virgin Until I Won a Grammy & I Did It!

Singer Lizzo surprised her fans by confessing intimate details about her sex life on Benny Blanco and Lil Dicky's 'Friends Keep Secrets' podcast. Lizzo, 37, revealed that she was a 'late bloomer' and that she lied about her virginity for a long time. The 'About Damn Time' singer explained that she made a promise to herself: not to have sex until she won a Grammy Award.

Lizzo won her first Grammy in 2020, when the deluxe version of her album 'Cuz I Love You' took home the award for best urban contemporary album. In addition, that same year, she also won in the categories of best pop solo performance for 'Truth Hurts' and best traditional R&B performance for 'Jerome'.

When Lil Dicky asked if she would have broken her promise if she hadn't won the Grammy, Lizzo responded with an ambiguous 'Who knows?'. The artist also clarified that, although she was excited to have achieved her goal, she was not thinking about having sex at the moment she won the award.

'I didn't even know that it was in my cards,' Lizzo explained when Kristin Batalucco asked her if the excitement of winning the Grammy was overshadowed by her excitement to have sex. 'I wasn't even set up for that,' she added.

The singer also shared that she used to lie about her virginity, describing it as 'so embarrassing'. Lizzo recalled an occasion when a group of friends were interrogating each other about their sex lives. When asked if she was a virgin, she responded with an indignant 'No!'.

'I remember it was so embarrassing,' she recalled. 'I said, 'I love the D!' I said that. It was so f***ing embarrassing... I was like, 'I love the D' and it held me over for a little while'.

Lizzo also revealed that her first kiss was at 21, explaining that it was a combination of religious reasons and her Grammy promise. 'When we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn't do anything before marriage,' she said. 'And then, I was so scared. No one wanted to kiss me'.

And when she finally had that kiss, 'it was terrible. It was a New Year's Eve thing and he, like, forced it on me,' she said. 'I was really mad and I thought, 'My first kiss is ruined!'

The experience of her first kiss was, in her words, 'terrible,' sharply contrasting with the joy and achievement she felt when winning her Grammy.
