Iconic London Restaurant Coq d'Argent to Relocate to New Rooftop Spot

The French restaurant Coq d'Argent, located on the rooftop of the No 1 Poultry building near Bank, is preparing for a significant change. Founded in 1998, this establishment has maintained a solid reputation as one of the best lunch spots for almost three decades. The restaurant, run by The Evolv Collection, will be forced to relocate due to the redevelopment of the building, approved by the courts. CEO Martin Williams confirmed that the restaurant will move to a new rooftop location within the City, maintaining its commitment to culinary excellence.

Coq d'Argent was recognized with the 'Toast the City' award from City AM for Best Rooftop last year, consolidating its prestige. The restaurant plans to reopen at its new location in early 2027, with the announcement of the new venue in due course. Last year was a record year for Coq d'Argent, and 2026 is expected to continue with the recent successes and acclaim of 'The Coq', offering the best summer on its terrace and its biggest Christmas season.

Coq d'Argent's terrace, described as the ideal place in a heatwave, offers an atmosphere that evokes Los Angeles more than central London. The space is characterized by its lush greenery and parasols, creating a relaxed and pleasant environment for diners. Customers, enjoying drinks while listening to lounge jazz, have made this place a popular meeting point.

The restaurant specializes in French classics such as steak tartare, escargots, cuts of meat, and seafood. In addition, it offers an extensive wine list and French-inspired cocktails. The layout of the restaurant was designed by its founder, Sir Terence Conran, which adds a distinctive aesthetic value to the dining experience.

The redevelopment of the No 1 Poultry building, a Grade II listed postmodern landmark in the city, is the main reason for the move. The renovation, valued at £100 million, is being funded by South Korean investor IGIS Asset Management. The project seeks to restore both the office space and the rooftop, where Coq d'Argent is currently located.

The decision to move Coq d'Argent marks the end of an era in its current location, but it also opens a new chapter for the restaurant. The Evolv Collection company is committed to maintaining the heritage of the founder, Sir Terence Conran, in its new location.
