Laura Woods Urges Thomas Tuchel to Include Trent Alexander-Arnold for World Cup

TV presenter Laura Woods has expressed her surprise and disagreement with manager Thomas Tuchel's decision not to call up Trent Alexander-Arnold for the World Cup. Woods believes it's a 'crazy' mistake and that the Real Madrid player should be in the squad, at the very least.

Tuchel named an expanded 35-man squad for the March friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, but Alexander-Arnold was still overlooked. This omission has drawn criticism, including from former England captain Wayne Rooney, who called it 'incredible', and Gary Lineker, who described it as a 'really insulting' decision.

Woods, speaking to BetMGM, emphasized the need for Alexander-Arnold in the team, highlighting his passing ability and performance for Real Madrid. She argued that his passing range and ability to create opportunities make him indispensable, even if he doesn't play every game. Moreover, Woods considers it 'madness' not to include him, given his talent and experience.

Woods also noted that Alexander-Arnold's absence could affect the team, including morale. She mentions that the player's Real Madrid teammates might wonder why he isn't in the England squad.

Alexander-Arnold, with over 350 appearances for Liverpool, has won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the EFL Cup. His move to Real Madrid last summer, with a six-year deal, has proven his worth after an uncertain start.

Former Premier League manager Sam Allardyce also questioned Tuchel's decision. Allardyce, speaking to Footy Accumulators, said he didn't understand Alexander-Arnold's exclusion, highlighting his quality and the improvement he has shown at Real Madrid.

Sam Allardyce emphasized that Alexander-Arnold's experience at Real Madrid has made him an even better player, despite initial difficulties. Allardyce acknowledged that, while he may be a little weak defensively, his passing ability, especially long passes, and crosses into the box are qualities that cannot be ignored.

England drew 1-1 with Uruguay and hopes for a better performance against Japan. Tuchel is trying to lead England to their second World Cup title, the first since 1966. England's first World Cup game is against Croatia on June 17.
