Boxer Gervonta 'Tank' Davis is attempting to recover the payday he believes he lost when his fight with Jake Paul collapsed, but he is now trying to do it in court rather than in the ring. The Baltimore star has filed a countersuit seeking more than $20 million from ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel, alleging she provoked the October 2025 incident that later derailed the lucrative Netflix-backed event. According to the countersuit filed March 23 and outlined by the Baltimore Banner, Davis claims Rossel initiated a confrontation at Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami, where she worked as a VIP cocktail waitress, as part of a scheme designed to frame and extort him.
The lawsuit alleges Rossel was aware Davis had an upcoming bout with Paul that was expected to generate more than $20 million for the undefeated lightweight through a global Netflix broadcast deal. Davis further claims Rossel, through her legal representation, later contacted his manager Ravone Littlejohn demanding $1.1 million or she would “pursue criminal charges through law enforcement and initial civil proceedings.”

The dispute traces back to the October 27, 2025 incident that ultimately helped sink Davis’ planned fight with Paul. As WBN reported, the Netflix headliner unraveled in November amid mounting legal controversy for the proposed Miami main event. The collapse removed what had been expected to be one of the biggest paydays of Davis’ career. Davis’ legal team has previously suggested the allegations were part of a financial scheme.
During his January bond hearing, the boxer’s attorney argued the case would eventually reveal a very different narrative. “Where their alleged victim has lied to them in an effort to try and extort money out of somebody,” Davis’ lawyer told the court. Details from the hearing, reported by WBN, showed bond being set at $16,000 with a no-contact order issued as part of Davis’ release conditions.

By targeting damages exceeding $20 million, Davis appears to be attempting to reclaim the purse he expected to earn before the fight collapsed. The situation also points to Tank moving in the opposite direction to a boxing comeback. Despite reports of potential rematches with Lamont Roach or Isaac Cruz, the countersuit suggests Davis is pursuing the earnings he believes were lost rather than new ones.
However, if Davis followed through on those comeback options, he could arguably earn much of that back inside the ring. Instead, the legal filing indicates the former champion would rather pursue the payday he feels was taken from him without competing.

Whether a nightclub employee could realistically satisfy a judgment approaching $20 million is another question entirely. For now, the dispute has moved into a civil battle that could take years to resolve while Davis’ boxing future remains unclear. The countersuit also arrives while the wider legal situation surrounding the October incident continues to develop, following a recalled probation warrant in Maryland and ongoing proceedings connected to the previous Miami case.
