The incident, which occurred in Friar Gate, Derby, on Saturday evening, involved a black Suzuki Swift that struck a group of people. Seven people were treated at the scene and later taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Derbyshire Police arrested a 36-year-old man, originally from India but a UK resident for a number of years, on suspicion of attempted murder, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, and dangerous driving.

Counter-terrorism police are assisting the investigation, but authorities are keeping an open mind about potential motives, and the incident is not currently being classified as terrorism. CCTV footage obtained by the Daily Mail shows the moment the Suzuki Swift speeds down the road shortly after the incident. A silver car can be seen traveling at a normal speed, before the black car speeds down the street moments later.
After the Suzuki Swift passed, witnesses stood in the middle of the street to assess what had happened, before heading towards the scene of the attack.
