Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) revealed that President Trump has heavily pushed China to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz amid the U.S. conflict with Iran.
Moulton stated on CNN that Trump's primary goal is now to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which, according to the congressman, was already open before Trump started this war. "The reality is, at this moment, we are losing this war," Moulton declared.
According to Moulton, Trump is forced to negotiate with Iran to reopen the strait if he were to cease the war, and that's why he is "begging" China, his greatest adversary, to intervene and resolve the conflict.
On Thursday, Trump stated that a "present" from Iran, mentioned two days earlier, consisted of the passage of ten oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has restricted traffic due to the conflict in the region.
The president told reporters that he was having "very substantial" talks with Iran. According to Trump, during the talks, Iran said: "To show you the fact that we’re real and we’re there, we’re going to let you have eight boats of oil".
Trump added that, after learning from the news, he realized that "there are eight boats that are going right up the middle of the Hormuz Strait".
Washington's conflict against Iran is about to reach the one-month mark, and polls reveal that Americans are not happy with the situation. The current average cost of a gallon of regular gas in the U.S. is about $3.98, up about $1 from a month ago, according to AAA.
In a recent CBS News/YouGov poll, 60% of respondents were against the American conflict with Iran, while 40% supported it.
The White House has been contacted by The Hill for comment on the situation.
