Walz to Join 'No Kings' Rally in Minneapolis Over Trump's Actions: 'We Will Never Forget'
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced he will attend the 'No Kings' rally in Minneapolis, scheduled for this weekend. This decision comes in response to the Trump administration's large-scale immigration enforcement operation in the city earlier this year. Walz emphasized that they will not forget what happened and are taking action. He also thanked people across the country for their support and highlighted that Minneapolis and Minnesota provided a template for pushing back on the implemented policies.

The rally is part of the 'No Kings' movement, which has organized over 3,000 events across the country. The movement originated in protest of what they called the Trump administration's 'authoritarian power grabs', organizing over 2,000 events last June, coinciding with the former president's birthday.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) deployed thousands of federal agents to Minnesota as part of Operation Metro Surge, the largest law enforcement operation in history. This operation generated controversy and concern in the community. Tom Homan, Trump's border czar, announced the end of the operation in early February, after federal agents shot and killed two Minnesota residents during the immigration crackdown.

Governor Walz stated that these operations caused 'generational trauma'. He also mentioned that the state is pursuing lawsuits against the Trump administration in relation to these events.
Governor Walz has demanded an investigation into former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem for her handling of these operations. In addition, Democratic lawmakers are withholding funds for the department until the Trump administration agrees to several key reform demands in its immigration enforcement operations. Former President Trump appointed Markwayne Mullin to replace Noem in her role leading DHS, citing concerns about a costly ad campaign she authorized.

Walz stated that 'until the final days of this administration and beyond, Minnesotans will ask for justice' and that 'we demand it'.
