Betrayal, OnlyFans, and a Shocking Episode: HBO's 'Neighbors' Nudist Danny Reveals His Experience Beyond the Screen
The HBO documentary series 'Neighbors,' directed by Harrison Fishman and Dylan Redford, follows neighborhood disputes in San Diego, but the character of Danny Smiechowski, a 72-year-old man who prefers to exercise naked in his driveway, steals the show. Smiechowski, known for wearing only a yellow thong, faces the misunderstanding of his neighbors, who criticize him for his lifestyle. In an interview with Variety, Smiechowski states: "The issue is showing five inches of skin. If I were a woman dressing like this, I'd be a hero. I'd probably get a multi-million dollar television contract. But I'm a man. So they cast aspersions upon me, and they tear me down."

The series shows how Smiechowski responds to an ad to participate in a documentary about neighborhood disputes, which leads to him being filmed for two months. The crew follows him to a nudist colony in Florida, where he removes his thong and remains completely naked, making friends and meeting Amanda Kent, a college student with whom he has a date. In the episode, Kent reveals that she is looking for a "sugar daddy" to boost her music career.
After his experience at the nudist colony, Smiechowski returns to San Diego and continues his exercise routine and content on OnlyFans. In a phone interview, he reveals that his OnlyFans account experienced a 20,000% growth after the episode aired. The relationship with Amanda Kent, who was looking for a "sugar daddy", ended badly, which led Smiechowski to feel betrayed. At the premiere in Hollywood, Smiechowski confessed that he felt vulnerable when watching the scenes with Kent, admitting that he felt naive and still gets emotional when talking about it.

Smiechowski also mentions that he feels vindicated, stating that Kent got her "justice" and that he now feels strengthened. In addition, he emphasizes that his main conflict with the neighbors lies in his choice of clothing, arguing that he does not bother anyone and that he is only looking to live his life on his property.
Smiechowski denounces age discrimination and social hypocrisy, criticizing the idea that older people should conform to certain activities. He defends his right to live his life as he wishes, regardless of what others think, and seeks love and companionship in his own way. In the interview, Smiechowski shares his reflections on human nature, citing history and French literature as sources of inspiration. He mentions that, after the episode aired, he received a large number of messages from people of all ages, including young people who have no problem with his lifestyle.

Smiechowski reveals that he is in contact with several women and that he is open to new relationships, despite the lessons learned from his experience with Amanda Kent. He concludes the interview with an analogy about men, dividing them into "good pigs", "bad pigs", and "pigs who are not pigs", and defines himself as a "great pig".
Smiechowski explains that the fundamental problem lies in society's perception and the lack of acceptance of his lifestyle. He insists that he is not doing anything wrong and that he is simply living his life on his property, without bothering anyone. In his own words: "I'm on my driveway wearing a thong bikini. I'm not walking down Main Street in San Diego. I'm not bothering anybody. I don't want trouble. I'm pushing big gears on my Peloton bike that most men my age could never, ever, ever do. And yet, these people emotionally abuse me".

The 'Neighbors' actor also mentions that his neighbors have different reactions towards him. Some accept him, while others criticize and judge him. Smiechowski feels supported by public opinion, as he receives many positive comments on the internet, far exceeding the negative ones. He emphasizes that people do not focus on the truth, but rather judge based on appearances and what society has conditioned them to believe.
During the interview, Smiechowski does not hesitate to express his disappointment and betrayal towards Amanda Kent. He reveals that during the episode's premiere, he felt shame when he saw the scenes in which Amanda confessed that she saw him as a means to obtain economic benefits. Smiechowski states: "At the premiere in Hollywood, there were 250 people there, and when those scenes came up, I cringed in my seat. If I ever felt vulnerable, that was the only time. I embarrassed myself by my naivety. I still get choked up talking about it".

He describes Amanda as a person who only seeks money and who used him for her own purposes. Smiechowski feels fully vindicated and considers that Amanda obtained her "justice" by being exposed on the show. The experience left him with an important lesson about distrust and the importance of being cautious in relationships.
