CineLink Drama, a flagship program of Sarajevo Film Festival’s CineLink Industry Days, dedicated to supporting drama series in development, has unveiled seven projects from Southeast Europe selected for this year’s edition.
The selection includes projects directed by Danis Tanović, the Oscar-winning director of "No Man’s Land".
Maša Marković, head of industry, said that this edition reflects a series landscape in Southeast Europe that is becoming more confident and defined, thinking fluently across genres, audiences, and markets.
By bringing together filmmakers moving from author-driven cinema into series alongside new voices already shaped by episodic storytelling, the strand continues to hold a space where continuity meets renewal.
This helps shape a regional industry that is strengthening its international profile and becoming more attentive to the strategic value of IP, including the ways local stories can circulate and generate adaptations beyond their original market.
The initiative aims to boost quality content production and enhance the region's international visibility.
The selected projects encompass a wide range of genres and themes, showcasing the creative diversity of the region.
Among them are "Chain Reaction," an action-comedy about snowboarders who uncover a nuclear conspiracy; "Hedgehogs in the Haze," a dramedy about three friends; "Small Yugoslavia," a horror comedy about vampire queens; and "Stringers," a political thriller about freelance journalists.
Also included are "The Valley," a crime thriller set in a Black Sea village, "The 9th Border," a cross-border crime thriller, and "You Can Always Come Back," a family drama set during the war in Yugoslavia.
These projects offer a varied and promising perspective on series storytelling, exploring relevant themes and using different genres to captivate audiences.
The CineLink Drama selection demonstrates the growing interest and quality of series production in Southeast Europe.
