Yankees Crush Mariners! Fried's Gem Ties Series with Dominant Performance

After Monday’s frustrating 2-1 walk-off loss, the Yankees took revenge and beat Logan Gilbert and the Seattle Mariners 5-0 on Tuesday at T-Mobile Park to tie the series at one victory apiece. The Yankees knew that, to win, they would need to bring their A-game against Gilbert, who had posted a solid 3.59 career ERA before taking the ball on Tuesday. And they did, thanks to a combination of dominant pitching and timely hitting.

The Yankees did it, in large part, thanks to an inspiring performance from their ace, Max Fried. The southpaw was effective all night long, completing seven innings of solid, scoreless work. Things got hairy in the bottom of the seventh, but the southpaw stranded two runners and got Victor Robles to line out to end the threat and his outing. He allowed three hits, one walk, and hit a batter, striking out six.

It’s Fried’s second straight scoreless outing to open the season.

The Yankees were on the board in the very first inning. With two outs, they didn’t surrender and started a nice rally. Cody Bellinger singled and touched home plate safely thanks to a Ben Rice RBI double. Giancarlo Stanton then hit a weak fly ball to right field that found grass instead of leather, gifting the Yankees an early 2-0 lead. It was Stanton’s 500th RBI since landing in New York.

Fried keeps showing the world why he is considered the Bombers’ ace at this point. As the team's tweet says: 'All he does is dominate, no matter the opponent or the circumstances.'

Gilbert and Fried traded zeroes for a while until the top of the sixth, when the Yankees struck again and took advantage of a moment of weakness by the Mariners’ frontline starter, who was chased after surrendering a total of five runs. Trent Grisham opened the frame with a ground-rule double and, after Aaron Judge struck out, Bellinger singled again to put men in the corners. After that, the Yankees scored their third run thanks to a Cal Raleigh throwing error while trying to catch Bellinger stealing second. Stanton ripped a hard-hit double to drive in Bellinger with the fourth run, and then Jazz Chisholm Jr. joined the party with an RBI knock of his own to make it 5-0.

Brent Headrick pitched yet another scoreless frame, and Tim Hill took care of the ninth to secure the Yankees’ win. The Yankees and Mariners will wrap up their three-game set on Wednesday, when Cam Schlittler faces George Kirby to decide who wins the series. The play ball voice will be heard at 4:10 pm ET.
