San Francisco 49ers Cast Doubt on Adding Star Pass-Rusher Joey Bosa

On Sunday, 49ers general manager John Lynch addressed the rumors about the possible signing of Joey Bosa to play alongside his brother Nick in San Francisco. Lynch suggested that the 49ers might not have the financial resources to make the signing happen.

"I know Mama Bosa would love that, but I don’t know if we can afford him," Lynch said, via Matt Barrows of TheAthletic.com.

It's unknown what Bosa's asking price is on the market. Since he remains unsigned and hasn’t been officially linked to any team aside from the 49ers, it’s possible his agent is asking for too much. In fact, Lynch’s comments could have been his attempt at driving Bosa’s market down.

Whether it will actually work remains to be seen, but it never hurts to try.

Bosa, 30, spent last season with the Bills, where he recorded five sacks and an NFL-high five forced fumbles across 15 starts. He hasn’t had a double-digit sack season since 2021, yet earned Pro Bowl status in 2024, his final season with the Chargers.

With 77 sacks in 10 seasons, it shouldn’t take long for Bosa to find another opportunity. But as Lynch hints at, he may have to reduce his asking price first.

Despite his outstanding career, Joey Bosa's future in the NFL might depend on his willingness to adjust his financial expectations.
