Raiders: Spytek, Kubiak Reveal Details on Maxx Crosby Trade Fallout

At the NFL’s annual league meetings in Phoenix, Raiders general manager John Spytek and head coach Klint Kubiak spoke candidly about defensive end Maxx Crosby and the implications of the failed trade. The deal, which would have sent Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for two first-round draft picks, fell through due to concerns about Crosby’s surgically repaired knee. Spytek explained that the timing of the reversal didn’t disrupt the team’s offseason plan.

Spytek highlighted that the team had sufficient cap space and funds available to be aggressive in building the team, thanks to the support of Mark Davis and the ownership group. Kubiak added that, in retrospect, it was as if they had gotten another elite defensive player in free agency, referring to the signings they made during the legal tampering period.

Crosby has witnessed a parade of general managers and head coaches cycling through the organization since being drafted in 2019. The decision to keep Crosby strengthened the team's defensive line, along with the additions of Kwity Paye and the retention of Malcolm Koonce and Tyree Wilson.

The deal required the new league year to begin on March 11 to be official, but the Ravens withdrew before this happened. Crosby's return to the Raiders occurred before the deal was made official.
