Nicolo Bulega Dominates Portimao, Secures Treble After Race 2 Win

Nicolo Bulega, the WorldSBK championship leader, completed a perfect weekend at Portimao by winning Race 2 and securing the treble. The Italian rider maintained the lead from the first lap, crossing the finish line almost two seconds ahead of his teammate, Iker Lecuona.

Miguel Oliveira completed the podium, repeating the same result as the previous races. Bulega once again demonstrated his superiority, maintaining the holeshot into Turn 2, while Lecuona dropped to fourth position. Alex Lowes, from Bimota, had an excellent start, overtaking Lecuona and Oliveira to position himself behind the championship leader.

Oliveira made an impressive overtake in Turn 3 to move into second place. Lecuona also surpassed Lowes, securing third position and looking to overtake Oliveira. The Spanish rider executed a remarkable overtake in Turn 1, setting the fastest lap, a crucial move in his attempt to achieve victory.

Meanwhile, Yari Montella and Xavi Vierge suffered crashes in Turn 5, although they were able to rejoin the race. Alberto Surra, from Motocorsa, was the first retirement, suffering a crash in Turn 13 on lap 6. Montella had a technical problem that forced him to retire on the same lap.

Bahattin Sofoglu also crashed in the tricky Turn 5, repeating Sunday's incident. Bulega and Lecuona, from the Ducati team, established a 2.5-second lead over the rest of the competitors, although Lecuona remained 1.3 seconds behind his teammate.

Tarran Mackenzie retired mid-race after a crash in Turn 13. Alvaro Bautista also ended his race in the gravel of Turn 5, failing to score points over the weekend. Bulega controlled the race from the front, maintaining his winning streak in 2026 and achieving his second consecutive treble.

Lecuona, with his second place, secured the fifth podium of his WorldSBK career, including three with Ducati after two with Honda. Oliveira replicated his third place, securing the podium in front of his home crowd. Alex and Sam Lowes finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Lorenzo Baldassarri impressed by taking sixth place, followed by Danilo Petrucci of BMW. Axel Bassani took eighth place, edging out Andrea Locatelli and Remy Gardner of Yamaha. Stefano Manzi finished in 11th place, ahead of Jonathan Rea, Tommy Bridewell, and Vierge. Somkiat Chantra scored the final point after Garrett Gerloff of Kawasaki crashed in the final corner on the last lap.

Bulega's victory at Portimao not only secured the treble but also strengthened his position as the WorldSBK championship leader. His consistency and skill on the track have allowed him to stand out from his competitors, demonstrating the superiority of his Ducati and his race strategy.

Lecuona's performance was also remarkable, securing a valuable second place and demonstrating the strength of the Ducati team. Oliveira's race, although not a victory, was also consistent and allowed him to secure a place on the podium, showing his skill on the track. The results of this race consolidate Bulega as a strong contender for the 2026 championship.
