On Sunday, the Carolina Hurricanes will close out their back-to-back homestand, facing the Montreal Canadiens for the second time in less than a week, just 24 hours after their game against the New Jersey Devils. The game will not only be one of the four remaining home games of the regular season, but will also honor veterans for their annual Military Appreciation Night. The game is scheduled for 5:00 PM EDT.

In the Hurricanes’ last game, they completed their season sweep up the Devils, defeating them 5-2, with Shayne Gostisbehere returning from injury, a goal for Nikolaj Ehlers for the third game in a row, and the 30th goal of the season for Seth Jarvis.

Meanwhile, the Canadiens are in the midst of a five-game road trip, which opened Saturday against the Nashville Predators. In that game, the Canadiens scored four goals in a row (including assist number 300 from captain Nick Suzuki), with the Predators only getting on the board towards the end of the third period, stripping Jacob Fowler of what would have been his second career NHL shutout.

With Brandon Bussi having played Saturday, Frederik Andersen is all but certain to start against the Canadiens Sunday. Andersen’s near-perfect record against the Canadiens took some smudging in the previous game – a 5-2 loss – but even still, he has won nine of the 11 games he’s played against them outright in his career.

Andersen’s save percentage this season is .871, with a goals against average of 3.15 across a 13-12-5 record. On the other side of the ice, the Canadiens will undoubtedly opt to have Jakub Dobes in net, as Fowler covered the game against the Predators. In his last game against Carolina, he put up one of the best performances of his young career, making the most saves he ever had in an NHL game. This season, his save percentage is .898, with a goals against average of 2.83 across a 24-8-4 record.

The Hurricanes are expected to line up Andrei Svechnikov, Sebastian Aho, and Seth Jarvis on the first offensive line. The defense could include Jaccob Slavin and Jalen Chatfield. The Canadiens could line up Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki, and Juraj Slafkovsky. The defense could include Mike Matheson and Noah Dobson.

In special teams, the Hurricanes have a power play percentage of 23.6% (8th) and a penalty kill of 80.3% (13th). The Canadiens have a power play of 24.5% (5th) and a penalty kill of 76.7% (26th).

After missing nine games straight, Shayne Gostisbehere returned to the lineup Saturday for a two-point game (1G, 1A). With the shorthanded, empty net goal in the game against the Devils, Seth Jarvis notched his third 30-goal season in a row. He is only the sixth player in franchise history to accomplish the feat.

The Hurricanes have just four more home games remaining in the regular season, and three of them are theme nights (Military Appreciation Night, Grateful Dead Night, Fan Appreciation Night).
