Joe Cole, who earned 56 caps for England, has presented his vision of the ideal team that, according to him, could win the World Cup. In the final international break before the tournament, England failed to impress, drawing 1-1 with Uruguay and losing 1-0 to Japan. Despite these results, Thomas Tuchel's side remains one of the favorites for the World Cup, after reaching consecutive European Championship finals under Gareth Southgate.

England also had outstanding performances in the World Cups under Southgate, reaching the semi-finals in 2018 and the quarter-finals in Qatar in 2022. Cole is confident that the 'Three Lions' can end a 60-year drought without lifting the World Cup, provided Tuchel, who took over last year, chooses the right lineup.
Tuchel faces several selection dilemmas, including central defense, midfield, and wingers. Cole believes he has the solution to one of these debates, proposing that Palmer, from Chelsea, take the place of Saka, from Arsenal, on the right wing. Saka has been the first choice in that position for several years but has had an inconsistent season with Arsenal, scoring only two goals since early December.

Palmer, meanwhile, has been more productive, scoring ten goals in all competitions. In addition to Palmer, Cole is also betting on Anthony Gordon, from Newcastle United, to occupy the other wing. Cole believes that Tuchel should do without Saka but highlights Declan Rice, also from Arsenal, as a crucial member of the England squad.
On 'The Dressing Room' podcast, Cole revealed his ideal eleven for the World Cup: 'In goal, Jordan Pickford. Reece James, Marc Guehi, John Stones... I would have liked him to have played more games this season, but you need experience at the World Cup, and he has it'.

'There is always the fear of him getting injured, but maybe it will work because he is fresh, knows what he is doing, and brings experience. At left-back, I like Lewis Hall, but I am going with Nico O'Reilly because he gives that penetration forward. Declan Rice must start in midfield, and I would put Elliot Anderson next to him. I would put Declan a little further back than he plays for Arsenal; he is being pressured a lot to play further forward, but we already have a lot of attack'.
Cole continued: 'I would tell Declan that he is the most important player on the field and that he needs to lead that midfield. If England wants to win the World Cup, they will have to be very good without the ball'.

'I would put Jude Bellingham as the number 10, but if he doesn't perform, a change can be made easily. I would put Cole Palmer coming from the right, as he has been doing at Chelsea, releasing him, and almost playing with two number tens. A midfield with Rice, Anderson, Bellingham, and Palmer has power, skill, and goals'.
Finally, Cole concluded: 'On the left, I would start with Anthony Gordon ahead of Marcus Rashford because he scores goals, he is a warrior, he presses very well, and he has legs to run behind, which will help Harry Kane if he sometimes drops back. I think with that team we can control possession and win the World Cup'. England has been placed in Group L for this summer's World Cup and will debut against Croatia on June 17. Group matches against Ghana and Panama complete Tuchel's schedule, who will seek to advance to the knockout stages and ultimately win the World Cup for the first time since 1966.
