Premier League legend Alan Shearer has strongly criticized Chelsea's board for their decisions in the transfer market. Since Todd Boehly acquired the team in 2022, the London club has invested over £1 billion in new players. Shearer has called some of these decisions 'baffling,' especially considering the clear weaknesses the team still presents.

Chelsea spent nearly £300 million last summer alone, bringing in players like Joao Pedro, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jamie Gittens. Despite this considerable spending, the team, which is now sixth in the Premier League under Liam Rosenior, and has been eliminated from the Champions League, still shows notable deficiencies in several key positions. Shearer, speaking to Premier League Productions, emphasized the need to strengthen the goalkeeper and center-back positions, areas that, according to him, have not been adequately addressed with the investment made.
Shearer pointed to the lack of a world-class goalkeeper and center-back as a persistent problem, despite the club's enormous investment. 'It's baffling, really, when you spend that amount of money, that you still haven't got that,' Shearer commented. The former footballer also mentioned how these deficiencies are affecting the team, with mistakes from the goalkeeper and ease for rivals to overcome the defense.

“Newcastle scored a similar goal to the one Everton scored last weekend when they went straight through the middle of Chelsea,” Shearer said. 'Chelsea are not going to achieve what they want while they're still searching for that,' he added. The lack of solidity in these key positions is costing the team important points, according to Shearer's analysis.
In addition to the transfer decisions, Shearer also questioned the sales of important players. The departures of players such as Lewis Hall and Marc Guehi in recent years have been questioned. Chris Sutton, a former Premier League striker, even questioned Chelsea's decision to sell Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, given his recent form for Everton.
Chelsea sold Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Everton after the midfielder only made 13 league appearances. The 27-year-old has impressed under David Moyes at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, scoring six goals and providing three assists in the Premier League.

Chris Sutton, on the BBC's 'Monday Night Club,' wondered about the decision to sell Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. 'Look at Dewsbury-Hall at Everton, I wonder what Chelsea fans make of that,' Sutton said. 'I know Cole Palmer is there but I wonder what they're thinking when they see his form and his ability in the final third to pick a pass.'
Chelsea, after a promising start under Rosenior, who replaced Enzo Maresca in January, suffered four consecutive defeats before the international break. Rosenior's side suffered an 8-2 aggregate defeat to PSG in the Champions League, in addition to Premier League defeats to Newcastle and Everton.

Chelsea will look to recover in the FA Cup, where they will face Port Vale in the quarter-finals, after a difficult period in the Premier League and the Champions League. The team, which is now sixth in the Premier League, seeks to improve its performance and find stability in the season.
Chelsea's performance has been irregular, with ups and downs in their game and results. The fans hope that the team can get back on track and achieve their goals in the remaining competitions. The FA Cup represents an opportunity to win a title and regain confidence.
