Premier League legend Alan Shearer has strongly criticized Chelsea's board for their decisions in the transfer market. Since Todd Boehly acquired the team in 2022, the London club has invested over £1 billion in new players. Shearer has called some of these decisions 'baffling,' especially considering the clear weaknesses the team still presents.
Chelsea spent nearly £300 million last summer alone, bringing in players like Joao Pedro, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jamie Gittens. Despite this considerable spending, the team, which is now sixth in the Premier League under Liam Rosenior, and has been eliminated from the Champions League, still shows notable deficiencies in several key positions. Shearer, speaking to Premier League Productions, emphasized the need to strengthen the goalkeeper and center-back positions, areas that, according to him, have not been adequately addressed with the investment made.
