Travelodge has launched a security review following an incident in December 2022, where Kyran Smith sexually assaulted a woman in her hotel room. Smith, after lying to reception staff, obtained a key to the victim's room. The incident occurred at a hotel in Maidenhead, Berkshire, after both attended a party. The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, reported that Smith provided her name to bypass the hotel's security checks.
Smith was convicted of trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offense and sexual assault in November and sentenced to seven and a half years in prison last month. The victim criticized Travelodge's initial response, which offered £30 compensation, calling it 'insulting', before the company formally apologized. The woman has been calling for changes to the hotel's room access procedures.
