US Allows Russian Oil Tanker to Cuba: No Policy Change, White House Says

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Monday that the decision to allow a Russian oil tanker to reach Cuba, despite the blockade, does not amount to a change in U.S. policy.

Former President Trump, when asked, said that he "wouldn't mind" if Cuba received oil. Trump stated that allowing Russia to send oil to Cuba "doesn't help" Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump argued that Russia would only lose one shipment of oil and that it would not have a big impact. He also added that Cuba is "finished" due to its bad regime and corrupt leadership, and that the arrival of a ship of oil will not make a difference.

The Biden administration justifies the decision to allow the passage of the oil tanker as a measure to provide humanitarian aid to the Cuban people. This case-by-case approach allows for the evaluation of specific needs and the impact of each situation.
