Former President Donald Trump's frequent golf trips have accumulated a cost of at least $101.2 million for U.S. taxpayers in just over 14 months, according to an analysis by HuffPost.

This figure represents approximately two-thirds of the total golf expenditure during his first term, which was already considerable. If this pace continues, the total cost could rise to around $300 million by the end of his second term, if he had one.

His most recent visit to his golf course in West Palm Beach was his 56th appearance since taking office in 2025 and marked his 110th day playing golf during his 435 days in office.

The cost of these trips is due to the sheer scale of the logistical operation that accompanies them, including flights on Air Force One, transport planes, and large security teams.

Mar-a-Lago is the most expensive destination, costing approximately $3.4 million per visit, due to the need to secure both the Atlantic coast and the Intracoastal Waterway. Other locations are more economical, but still far from being cheap.

Trips to Bedminster, New Jersey, cost around $1.1 million each, while visits to Trump's Doral resort in Florida cost approximately $2.7 million per trip.

The most expensive trip so far was abroad, a visit to Trump's Scottish resorts last summer, costing $9.7 million.

The figures used to calculate these costs are based on a Government Accountability Office report from his first term. That analysis found that four trips to Mar-a-Lago in early 2017 cost a total of $13.6 million.

The main drivers of these costs have not changed: Air Force One remains incredibly expensive to operate, as does the transportation of vehicles and the maintenance of full security coverage.

During his first term, Trump took two years to reach $100 million in golf-related spending, playing 293 days on his own courses and costing taxpayers a total of $151.5 million.

This time, he has passed the same mark much faster, and the pace has accelerated, even if the routine has not changed much.

The White House has begun to list these outings as 'executive time' in its public schedule.

Jordan Libowitz of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington told HuffPost: 'At a time when gas prices are spiking and Americans across the country find themselves in an ever-worsening affordability crisis, the president has burned through over $100 million in taxpayer money in order to make promotional appearances at his golf courses and hobnob with millionaires and billionaires.'

Before taking office, Trump had criticized Barack Obama for his golf habits.

During his 2016 campaign, he even said he wouldn't have time to play golf because he would be too busy 'working for you'.
