In 1990, Spy Magazine conducted a social experiment to identify the most 'stingy' billionaire. The experiment involved sending checks with increasingly smaller amounts to a list of 58 billionaires in New York, including Donald Trump. The ultimate goal was to see who would cash the smallest possible check. The experiment began with a check for $1.11, which was cashed by 26 of the 58 recipients, including singer Cher and actor Michael Douglas.
In the second phase, checks for 64 cents were sent, of which Trump and 12 other billionaires proceeded to cash. Finally, in the third round, a check for 13 cents was sent. Only two people cashed this last check: Donald Trump and Adnan Khashoggi, a Saudi arms dealer. This peculiar experiment has resurfaced in public debate, especially on social media, where the personality and motivations of Trump are discussed.
