Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, head of the Catholic Church in the Holy Land, was prevented from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem to officiate Palm Sunday mass. The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem reported that this is the first time in centuries that religious leaders have been prevented from celebrating mass in this sacred place. Officers stopped Pizzaballa along with the Custos of the Holy Land, Francesco Ielpo, as they were on their way to the Holy Sepulchre. The situation arises amid the war between Israel and the United States with Iran, which has led Israeli authorities to keep several holy sites in Jerusalem closed.
