Sony Music Entertainment announced on Monday the promotion of Ezekiel Lewis, former president of Epic Records, to CEO and chairman of the record label. Lewis will report to Rob Stringer, chairman of Sony Music Group. This move comes about six months after Sylvia Rhone, who took over as CEO in 2019, stepped down from her post. Rhone initially joined the company as president in 2014. Her retirement, being one of the oldest major label CEOs, was a frequent topic of speculation in the industry.
Lewis has been a key figure at Epic for years, running the A&R department since 2018 and being named president in 2023. During his tenure at Epic, he has worked with artists such as Meghan Trainor, Madison Beer, 21 Savage, Future, Zara Larsson, and Tyla, among others.
