Filmotor has acquired the world distribution rights for 'A Fire There,' Marlene Edoyan's documentary, gearing up for its world premiere at the Visions du Réel Film Festival and its North American debut at Hot Docs. The film, set in a remote Armenian village in southern Georgia, promises a deep exploration of the tensions between inherited traditions and the aspirations of young people to shape their own futures.

The narrative focuses on three young men navigating social constraints and geopolitical uncertainty, offering a poignant portrait of coming-of-age.
Michaela Čajkova of Filmotor praised 'A Fire There' for its sensitivity and cinematic precision, highlighting the unique perspective Edoyan brings to a community rarely seen on screen. The Canadian production, by Nemesis Films, features cinematography by Etienne Roussy and editing by Omar Elhamy. The music, composed by Mathieu Charbonneau and Christophe Lamarche-Ledoux, adds an additional layer of emotional depth to the narrative.

Director Marlene Edoyan describes the film as both a question and a promise about what to preserve from the past and what to leave behind, using fire as a symbolic and emotional thread in the lives of the young people.
The film delves into how territory, culture, and history shape identity and desire, using immersive imagery and seasonal rhythms. Edoyan emphasizes the film's importance as an intimate portrait of youth daring to carry their own fire forward, an act of resistance and imagination against a predetermined fate.

Through religious rituals, coffee cup readings, and the Georgian landscape, the film explores how fate, memory, and renewal intersect. Social limitations prevented filming with teenagers and young women, so the film focuses on the voices and presence of older women to address gender realities.
Filmotor will begin talks with potential buyers during Visions du Réel, which runs in Nyon, Switzerland, from April 17 through 26. The film promises to resonate beyond its immediate setting, offering a unique perspective on a community rarely seen in cinema.

The film reflects how the will to dream, resist, and love becomes a silent flame, exploring the stories of young people amidst social and geopolitical changes in Georgia and the South Caucasus.
The film, produced by Dominique Dussault and Edoyan for Nemesis Films, follows three young men as they confront inherited traditions and the desire to forge their own destinies. Fire serves as an emotional and symbolic thread running through their lives, being both destructive and regenerative.

The film examines how identity and desire are shaped by territory, culture, and history, offering an intimate look at youth daring to carry their own fire forward.
