In an interview with IGN, game design director Leonid Rastorguev revealed that players won't have to deal with time management during interplanetary travel.
The game, based on the science fiction series known for its realism, will show cutscenes that illustrate life aboard the ship during long journeys. Rastorguev explained that the universe of 'The Expanse' is scientifically accurate, which imposes restrictions on the design of new elements, requiring constant verification with physics experts.
Since journeys in the 'The Expanse' universe can last days, weeks, or even months, the game will feature short scenes showing how crew members live their lives.
These scenes will include activities such as communicating, eating, exercising, and other daily activities, with the aim of immersing the player in the experience of the passage of time on board the ship. Rastorguev added that other elements will be included to explain how long space journeys work in the 'The Expanse' universe.
Owlcat Games has recently revealed several details about 'The Expanse: Osiris Reborn'.
A trailer was shown that revealed a launch window for Spring 2027. In addition, it was confirmed that a closed beta version of the RPG will be available from April 22nd for those who purchase the Miller’s Pack.
Katarina Popp, the studio's PR manager, confirmed that generative AI was used in the game's development, but only in the early stages.
This technology was used for prototyping and placeholder assets, which will be replaced by human-created works in the final version. Popp explained that AI was used for rapid iteration on technical aspects, such as converting 2D images to 3D and color adjustments.
The game 'The Expanse: Osiris Reborn' will be available for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The developer Owlcat Games has been active in disseminating information about the game, generating expectations among fans of the series and science fiction video game enthusiasts.
