Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young revealed in a shareholder meeting that a version of Crimson Desert for the Nintendo Switch 2 is being considered. The game, currently available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, could expand its reach to Nintendo's next-generation console. However, Jin-young warned that, due to the lower technical specifications of the Switch 2, "there are parts we have to give up," indicating the need for significant optimizations for the port.
The executive explained that, although there is internal interest and research and development (R&D) has begun, the difference in specifications between Switch 2 and other consoles presents a challenge. Adapting the game will require decisions about which graphic or performance elements might be compromised to ensure a playable experience on the new platform. This situation raises questions about how the visual quality and original gameplay of the title will be preserved.
The company also values supporting the modding community, recognizing its potential to enrich the gaming experience. Jin-young noted that, due to the game's sandbox structure and the active modding community, supporting mods could be a strength. However, opening up a large part of the game engine to allow mods requires careful consideration, and although the development team views this positively, there are no concrete plans at this time.
Regarding other features, it was revealed that the inclusion of a multiplayer mode was considered, but ultimately discarded due to implementation difficulties. This decision underlines the challenges of balancing development ambitions with technical realities and deadlines. The company prefers to focus on the core game experience, prioritizing quality over the number of game modes.
Jin-young also confirmed that the development of DokeV, the company's next game, is underway and could be released sooner than expected. The company aims to disclose the development status of DokeV "at an appropriate time". This suggests a strategic approach to project management and communication with investors and the gaming community.
