The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) issued an urgent statement to address safety concerns of the new Formula 1 regulations following Oliver Bearman’s high-speed crash at the Japanese Grand Prix. The incident, involving a 50G force, occurred as Bearman took evasive action to avoid driver Franco Colapinto, resulting in a crash into the barriers. The driver was fortunately unharmed, suffering only a knee contusion.
The FIA notes that the 2026 regulations have been the subject of ongoing discussions between the FIA, teams, power unit manufacturers, drivers, and FOM. These regulations include adjustable parameters, especially in energy management, which allows for optimization based on real-world data. A structured review has been agreed upon after the initial phase of the season to gather and analyze sufficient data.
