Orlando Bloom Unveils Porsche Passion & New Role at Porsche Design!

Orlando Bloom, known for his roles in films like *The Lord of the Rings* and *Gran Turismo*, has revealed his long-standing passion for the Porsche brand. This passion has led him to become a global ambassador for Porsche Design timepieces and eyewear. Bloom recalls that his first Porsche was a 1973 911S, acquired with his first paycheck as an actor.

“It all started with the first paycheck I got from making a movie,” says Bloom. “I was like, ‘Okay, now I can go buy myself a sports car,’ so I got a 911S from 1973, which I still own. It kept going from there; When I finished a film, it was either a watch or a car.” This enthusiasm led him to collaborate with the brand on the design of exclusive products.

Since his appointment as ambassador, Bloom has worked with Porsche Design on several projects. Among them, sunglasses and a leather jacket inspired by the iconic models of the automotive brand stand out. The jacket, in particular, is a project he is very proud of: “It’s very beautiful leather. It has a hood because I wanted it to have a slightly street feel to it, and I wanted it to have a utility feel as well, so it’s reversible.”

In addition to his design collaboration, Bloom is also a watch enthusiast, a passion he inherited from his grandfather. His current collection includes several coveted models from top brands, including, of course, Porsche Design.

Last month, Bloom attended the opening of Porsche Design's new watchmaking headquarters in Grenchen, Switzerland. During the event, he wore the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition, a watch he helped launch in July 2025. This model is a reissue of Porsche's original Chronograph 1, one of the first chronographs with a black-coated steel case, launched in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and inspired by the dashboard of a Porsche 911.

Although he has not yet designed a watch with Porsche Design, Bloom expressed his enthusiasm for the idea: “I’ve got some great ideas.” The brand will launch the Chronograph 1 – All Titanium Numbered Edition, based on the 1975 limited edition, with a limited production of 1,000 pieces per year.

The new Chronograph 1 – All Titanium Numbered Edition features a 40.8 mm case and bracelet made of glass-bead-blasted titanium, with a titanium folding clasp and fine adjustment. The dial stands out for its legibility, with white markings on a black surface and an oversized tachymeter scale. The indexes and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova. The movement, Porsche Design WERK 01.400 with chronograph and day/date display, is COSC certified and has a power reserve of 48 hours. Its retail price is $8,250 dollars.

Porsche Design Timepieces is distinguished by being the only automotive company with its own watch factory. The 3,600-square-meter manufactory, located in Grenchen, is the former site of Eterna, completely renovated by Porsche. It has 10 watchmaking stations, CNC machines, an advanced ventilation system and state-of-the-art quality control equipment.

The headquarters also offers a direct customer experience, with an exhibition area that traces the evolution of Porsche Design Timepieces since 1972 and a configuration room where customers can co-design their custom watches, choosing finishes that match their Porsche cars. Even a special door allows customers to drive their Porsches directly into the building.

Rolf Bergmann, CEO of Porsche Design Timepieces, emphasizes that his customers expect a certain level of quality. The brand focuses on sports watches made with titanium, using materials and colors inspired by Porsche cars. The rotors of the watches, for example, can be designed to match the steering wheel of the customer's car.

Although Porsche does not manufacture its own movements, these are supplied by renowned Swiss companies such as Concepto and Dubois Depraz, and are designed according to Porsche Design specifications.
