Iconic Gliderdrome, Music Legends' Venue, For Sale for £475,000

The Gliderdrome, described as a time capsule of music history, is currently for sale. The venue, located in Boston, Lincolnshire, includes the Starlight Rooms, a bingo hall, warehouses, Stanley’s Bar, and The Richmond, all available for separate purchase. Poyntons Consultancy, overseeing the sale, has set an asking price of £475,000 for the Starlight Rooms, the heart of the Gliderdrome and a Grade II listed dance hall.

Jack Fairman of Poyntons Consultancy highlighted the uniqueness of the Gliderdrome, mentioning its rich history that transcends Boston. Fairman expressed his excitement about the opportunity to acquire a venue of such cultural significance and looked forward to the future of the venue.

The site was originally opened as an open-air roller skating rink by brothers Ernest and Sydney Malkinson in the 1930s. During World War Two, it was roofed over and began to hold dancing sessions which became hugely popular, especially among British and American servicemen stationed in the area. After the original site burnt down in the 1950s, the new Gliderdrome resurfaced as a dance and music venue, attracting some of the biggest names in music in the 1960s.

Stars such as Tina Turner and Jimi Hendrix have graced its stage. Selling the different parts of the Gliderdrome separately gives new owners the possibility of development.

The Gliderdrome is much more than a venue; it is a time capsule of unforgettable nights and music history in constant creation. Generations of fans packed its doors to see future superstars before they hit the big time, and the artists later reflected on their performances there as standout moments in their careers. That sense of nostalgia continues to resonate today, solidifying its place as one of the most treasured cultural landmarks in the region.
