Happy Feet Broadway Musical in Development

The musical 'Happy Feet', based on the Oscar-winning animated film, is being developed for Broadway. The production features Tony Award-winning Michael Arden as director. The project is led by Tony Award-winning producer Dori Berinstein, known for works such as 'Legally Blonde' and 'The Prom'.

The musical promises to recreate the magic of the 2006 film, which captivated audiences worldwide with its CG animation and its rhythm-filled soundtrack. The creative team includes Douglas Lyons as book writer and a choreography team that includes Ayodele Casel, Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher “Cree” Grant.

The producers of the Broadway musical promise that the show will include the popular songs from the original film and its soundtrack. The original film and its sequel grossed an impressive $847 million worldwide.

The design team for the 'Happy Feet' musical also includes numerous Tony Award winners, including set designer Dane Laffrey, costume designer Susan Hilferty, lighting designer Natasha Katz, puppet designer Basil Twist, orchestrator/co-arranger Kenny Seymour, and music supervisor/co-arranger Jackson Teeley.

The musical is being produced by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, whose upcoming projects include adaptations of 'Crazy Rich Asians' and 'Practical Magic', in addition to the current Broadway productions of 'The Lost Boys' and 'Dog Day Afternoon'. Mark Kaufman, executive vice president and chief content officer of Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, will act as a creative consultant. George Miller, director of the original film, will also participate as a consulting producer.

General management of the 'Happy Feet' musical is by Wagner Johnson Productions. The original film, 'Happy Feet', won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2007.

The film featured a star-studded voice cast, including Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, Robin Williams, and Nicole Kidman, among others. The sequel, 'Happy Feet Two', was released in 2011.
