Goodbye 'Narcos'? Disney+'s New Series Reveals Pablo Escobar Through the Eyes of His Son
The series 'Dear Killer Nannies', inspired by the life of Sebastián Marroquín, son of Pablo Escobar, is presented as a different proposal from conventional narratives about drug trafficking. Sebastián Ortega, co-creator along with Marroquín and Pablo Farina, emphasizes that the series will not focus on drug trafficking, but on Marroquín's personal experience as the son of one of the world's most notorious criminals.

Ortega highlights that the series seeks to explore the complex reality of a child who discovers the true nature of his father, a process that Marroquín has experienced firsthand. The series, produced by The Walt Disney Company Latin America, Telemundo Studios and TIS Productions, focuses on the emotional and psychological consequences of growing up in the shadow of Pablo Escobar.
Marroquín, who was the last person to speak to Escobar before his death, has dedicated his life to amending the mistakes of the past. The series will explore the difficult path he took to understand what was right and what was wrong, taking responsibility for his father's actions. In addition, his attempt to meet with the victims' families, expressing his regret, will be addressed.

This project is also based on Marroquín's book, 'Sins of My Father', offering an opportunity to get to know a man who managed to transform his life. Ortega points out that the series seeks to portray Marroquín fairly, correcting the image that has been projected of him in other media.
Written by Alejandro Quesada, Ana María Parra, Martín Méndez and Sebastián Ortega, 'Dear Killer Nannies' is directed by Pablo Fendrik and Felipe Cano Ibañez. The cast includes Janer Villarreal, Miguel Tamayo, Miguel Ángel “Orión” García, Laura Rodríguez, Juanita Molina, Julián Zuluaga, Rafael Zea, Danharry Colorado and Julián Bustamante, with John Leguizamo playing Pablo Escobar.

The series promises to show the complexity of Marroquín's life, who was unfairly judged for his father's crimes. Ortega relates that Marroquín had to take care of his mother and sister at the age of 16, being a prisoner of his father's crimes.
The series, which promises a mix of brutality and tragicomedy, explores the contradiction between love and horror in Marroquín's life. Ortega mentions that the series is inspired by 'The Sopranos', mixing brutality with tragicomedy. There will be scenes where the characters enjoy moments of joy that are interrupted by violence.

The series seeks to immerse the viewer in Marroquín's life, showing the horrible crimes and the affection that surrounded him. Ortega emphasizes that growing up in that environment is difficult, and that the series will demonstrate that violence brings nothing good.
The series seeks to demonstrate that violence brings nothing good and to offer a human perspective on Escobar through the eyes of his son. Ortega remembers the impression that Escobar made on him at the time, and now sees a great opportunity to show the life of the drug trafficker from the perspective of his son.

Marroquín needed years of therapy and giving up material possessions to find peace. The series will show how he finally decided to move away from violence and seek a peaceful life, as he never knew peace. Ortega recalls that Marroquín told stories about his father sleeping in different places every night or being surrounded by money without being able to buy food, which made him question whether it was all worth it.
