Disney+ Expands Content Deal with RAI in Italy: New Partnership

Disney+ continues to expand its content offerings with a new agreement in Europe, this time with Italian broadcaster RAI. This deal, announced on Tuesday, follows the Friday deal with RTVE in Spain, marking the second collaboration in a week that adds content immediately after its linear broadcast on television. The agreement with RAI will allow Disney+ subscribers in Italy to enjoy popular programs such as the talk show Belve, hosted by Francesca Fagnani, and the game show The Floor – Ne rimarrà solo uno, hosted by Paola Perego and Gabriele Vagnato, from the day after their broadcast on RAI 2.

This agreement represents another step in Disney+'s strategy of collaborating with European free-to-air broadcasters, following previous deals with ITV in the UK, ARD and ZDF in Germany, SIC in Portugal, and Atresmedia in Spain.

In addition to the aforementioned programs, Disney+ will feature RAI titles from the recent past such as Braccialetti rossi, Mina Settembre, L’amica geniale, Un passo dal cielo, and Màkari, as well as the docu-reality series Il Collegio. These programs will be offered in a dedicated collection on Disney+ in Italy, which will launch soon.

The deal with RAI follows a series of successful collaborations by Disney+ with European broadcasters, highlighting its focus on combining global content with local programming to attract a wider audience.

Karl Holmes, general manager of Disney+ EMEA, stated that this collaboration with RAI will bring Disney+ customers in Italy an even broader selection of incredibly iconic local shows. Holmes highlighted RAI's deep connection with viewers and its long-standing heritage in high-quality storytelling.

This agreement reflects Disney's approach to working with free-to-air broadcasters across Europe, helping them bring their stories to wider audiences and offering Disney+ subscribers more extraordinary local entertainment and ways to enjoy the shows they love.

"Building on over 40 years of Disney and RAI working alongside each other in Italy, this initiative also aligns with our approach to working with free‑to‑air broadcasters across Europe, helping them bring their stories to wider audiences while giving Disney+ customers more extraordinary local entertainment and more ways to enjoy the shows they love," Holmes concluded.
