Tom Hanks and Marielle Heller are planning a reunion following their Oscar-nominated collaboration in 2019 with "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood".

This time, they are working on a baseball dramedy that has already attracted interest from several studios. Hanks will star in the adaptation of the short story "The Comebacker," with Heller directing. Both will produce the film through their respective production labels.
Sources indicate that rapper Bad Bunny and Oscar nominee Colman Domingo are in talks to join the cast.

Sony Pictures, which distributed "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood," seems to be the frontrunner to acquire the rights to the film, thanks to an attractive offer. The original story, written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Dave Eggers, promises a moving narrative.
"The Comebacker" is the first in a series of short stories by Eggers.

The story follows Lionel, a sports journalist whose passion is reignited upon meeting a minor league pitcher. The plot centers on the consequences of an unusual injury to the pitcher, who, after being hit by a ball, begins to exhibit unexpected behaviors, including a poetic style that captivates readers.
The role that Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, would play has not yet been revealed.

The Grammy winner is currently on a world tour that ends at the end of July, which could influence the film's production schedule. Colman Domingo's involvement is also in the interested stage, with no official confirmation at the moment.
Although the original short story focuses on the San Francisco Giants, a source suggested that the film's script could be set in the New York Mets.

This change could offer a new perspective on the story and attract a different audience. The combination of Hanks' talent, Bad Bunny's popularity, and Domingo's experience promises a high-impact cinematic project.
