Hokusai Meets Lovecraft: Epic Art of Ancient Gods!
Katsushika Hokusai, famous for his 19th-century woodcuts, and H.P. Lovecraft, creator of the Cthulhu Mythos in the 1920s, come together in a unique art collection. Goki Yamada, known as Goking, has reimagined Hokusai's iconic "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji", inserting Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep, and other beings from the Lovecraftian universe into each of the 46 plates.

Yamada, based in Kanagawa, has been sharing these creations online and in self-published zines for years. His previous work, the "Cthulhu Mythos Creature Anatomy Guide", which featured anatomical illustrations of Lovecraftian gods, was translated into several languages.
The new collection, which covers the original 46 plates (the initial 36 plus 10 additional created due to the success of the series), includes nine previously unpublished pieces and commentary from the artist. The illustrations maintain Hokusai's compositions and muted color palette, while incorporating cosmic abominations into the landscapes. We see a toad monster emerging from a riverbed, a crawling chaos perched on a sacred mountain, and a sea beast emerging alongside a meteorite.

The book, published by Two Virgins of Tokyo, is priced at ¥3,080 (approximately $20). In addition to the book, t-shirts, art prints, and a desk mat are also available.
This fusion of artistic styles is a testament to the enduring influence of Hokusai and Lovecraft in popular culture. Yamada's ability to combine these elements creates a visual experience that is both familiar and disturbing, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a universe of beauty and horror.

The publication of "Thirty-six Views of Evil Gods" is a significant event for fans of both artists, offering a new perspective on their works and celebrating boundless creativity.
Yamada's work demonstrates how art can bridge different eras and styles, creating something completely new. The combination of Hokusai's precision and elegance with Lovecraft's cosmic horror is an example of how creativity can generate surprising and captivating results.

This project is not only a tribute to two great figures of art and literature, but also a celebration of imagination and the human capacity to create fascinating worlds.
Yamada's work, who has been publishing these creations online and in self-published fanzines for years, shows how digital art can be a powerful tool for revitalizing and reinterpreting classic works. His innovative approach and his ability to merge different styles and themes have attracted the attention of a wide audience.

The publication of "Thirty-six Views of Evil Gods" is an important event for art and literature lovers, offering a new perspective on the works of Hokusai and Lovecraft, and celebrating boundless creativity.
