Art on the Tatami: 'JIU-JITSU GI ART EXHIBITION' Merges Jiu-Jitsu and Design in Kyoto
The 'JIU-JITSU GI ART EXHIBITION 5', curated by mixed martial artist Caol Uno, is being held at Fujii Daimaru in Kyoto. This unique exhibition transforms the 'Gi', the traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu uniform, into a canvas for artistic expression. The initiative seeks to explore the intersection of sport and art, offering a fresh perspective on Jiu-Jitsu culture. The exhibition focuses on creativity, presenting a collection where functionality meets bold cultural expression.

The exhibition highlights the collaboration between athletes and artists, taking art beyond the tatami.
The exhibition features a diverse merchandise lineup with original artwork from three primary collaborators: street culture artist face oka, symbolic animal motif specialist Koichiro Takagi, and graphic artist Amane Murakami. Each reinterprets 100A’s competition Gi model into wearable art. These designs extend beyond the mats, with limited-edition apparel and accessories that merge functionality with bold cultural expression. Items include “Artwork Dry” short-sleeve and long-sleeve training tops that bring the artists’ unique visuals to the gym.

Additionally, the pop-up shop includes high-profile collaborative items such as a heavyweight long-sleeve tee featuring illustrations by Tomoo Gokita for the HOLY SHIT label, a 100A gym backpack, and premium Gi pants crafted from specialized Kaihara Denim.
The merchandise for the exhibition is priced between approximately ¥4,950 – ¥28,600 JPY (approx. $31 - $179 USD). This price range allows a wide array of art and Jiu-Jitsu fans to acquire unique pieces. The pricing strategy aims to balance the exclusivity of the artworks with accessibility for the general public. The exhibition also offers online purchase options for those unable to attend in person.

This strategy ensures that the exhibition is accessible to a global audience, extending the reach of art and Jiu-Jitsu culture.
The 'JIU-JITSU GI ART EXHIBITION 5' will be held at Fujii Daimaru 1F Free Space from April 1 - 7, 2026, during regular store hours. For fans unable to attend the Kyoto event in person, a limited-time digital release will also be available through the Fujii Daimaru Online Shop. The specific location is 605 Teianmaenocho, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, 600-8031, Japan.

This hybrid strategy, both physical and digital, ensures maximum participation and exposure for the artists and the ONEHUNDRED ATHLETIC (100A) brand.
Caol Uno, mixed martial artist and director of the technical apparel brand ONEHUNDRED ATHLETIC (100A), is the curator of this fifth edition. The brand, known for its focus on functionality and innovative design, has created a platform to merge art and sport. The collaboration with artists such as face oka, Koichiro Takagi, and Amane Murakami highlights the brand's vision of transcending the traditional boundaries of sport.

The initiative reflects the growing trend of merging art and sports culture, creating unique experiences for fans.
